The 2025 Linguist Internship Program officially concluded this past Wednesday, September 10th. More than just a course, it was an emotional journey of growth, discovery, and transformation. Looking back on the past weeks, what resonates most deeply are not the statistics, but the stories and the changes in mindset of each intern.
A Mindset Shift: Redefining the Concept of a ‘Good Translation‘
Perhaps the most important lesson learners take away is not a new technique, but a change in mindset. Thu Giang shared that the most valuable thing she learned was how a true professional translator works: ‘I used to think only about the reader, without paying attention to the mandatory requirements of a project—such as unforgivable errors, strict limitations, project guidelines, writing style, or formatting. However, since joining this internship, I’ve realized that all of these aspects are incredibly important.’
Quoc Trung further emphasized: ‘The best translation isn’t the most elegant one, but the safest one—meaning the translation that most rigorously follows the client’s requirements and leaves virtually no room for error.’ He also compared the translation process—from team meetings and requirement analysis to shaping the translation itself—to programming a web application: careful, meticulous, and with no margin for mistakes.
The program went beyond technical knowledge to address important—but often overlooked—aspects such as respecting and conveying cultural elements, which Tri Dung described as ‘the missing piece’ in his translation skill set.
Firm foundations, future ready.
This journey has built confidence in many different ways. Many learners feel better prepared, even while still developing their own self-confidence. As Thuy Duong shared: ‘I feel more prepared after completing this course, though I am still building my confidence. The course helped me understand essential tools and workflows, and I am motivated to keep improving through practice and experience.’
Another profound insight was that confidence sometimes decreases—but this can actually be a sign of real growth. Tung Thu admitted: ‘After the course, I gained so much new knowledge and valuable skills. Although I now see this as a truly demanding industry and my confidence has taken a hit, I still hope to have the chance to receive further training and pursue this career in the future.’ Recognizing the vastness and challenges of the industry did not discourage them; on the contrary, it strengthened their determination to follow the path they had chosen.
And then there were the breakthroughs—moments when the courage to face one’s own shortcomings turned challenges into strengths. Quoc Trung shared candidly: ‘Thanks to the feedback from mentors and friends in the internship, I went through the “Valley of Despair.” …Now, instead of feeling 100% confident, I feel 1000%.’
A Place Where Gratitude and a Collaborative Spirit Shine Brightly
That journey unfolded in an open and supportive learning environment. Thuy Duong shared: ‘I am truly grateful to the mentors for their support and guidance throughout the training. I also learned a lot from my teammates.’ Here, each intern was not only a learner but also an inspiration to others. It was this open environment and supportive spirit that made the journey so memorable.
The 2025 Linguist Internship has come to an end, but the lessons, memories, and—most importantly—the transformation in learners’ mindset will last forever.
